New scholarship award pushes Coombes lab trainees over $1.5 million mark

MD/PhD student Alex Oberc has been awarded a $105,000 scholarship over 3-years from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. This new scholarship will help support Alex's research to uncover the microbial contributions in Crohn's disease, a devastating and life-long disease involving chronic inflammation in the gut. Alex's research is looking into how adherent-invasive E. coli participate in this inflammatory process, and to identify new potential targets for innovative therapies.

Over the past 10 years I have had the honor and privilege of working with tremendously talented trainees at all stages of career development. With this new scholarship, the total value of salary awards won by Coombes lab graduate students and postdoctoral fellows is now over $1.5 million.
